I was meditating in an Indigenous garden by the Yarra River when I noticed a faint face-like features, emerging from the bark of a tree. I was mesmerized by what unfolded.
What first appeared as bark became something more — a quietly revealing of a tree spirt through the folds, scars and textures of the tree.
Since that first encounter, this tree spirit, I call Elder, has become a familiar friend.
I return often to visit, to notice what has changed and to spend time in its presence.
This photograph is an invitation into the possibility that when we become still enough, the living world reveals itself to us in ways we might otherwise pass by.
I share this tree spirit with you.
